Projects and Programmes
Cotton Development Board has been implementing a programme for development of Research, Seed production and Cotton Extension under revenue budget. CDB has prepared and submitted a development project for strengthening of Cotton Research activities to the government for approval. Activities of Cotton Development Board are implemented mainly by the manpower under revivue budget.
Brief description of the Programmes and Projects are as follows-
At present Cotton Development Board is implementing a programme titled “Cotton Research, Seed Production and Extension Programme” under revenue budget to support, production of truthfully labeled seed(TLS), training, demonstration, purchase of Hill cotton for seed production and other field activities of Upland Cotton and Hill cotton.

Objectives :
- To evolve modern varieties and technologies for increasing cotton production through strengthening research activities of CDB;
- To develop the research and training centres of CDB with modern equipment;
- To produce truthfully labeled seed through contact/selected farmers;
- To train contact/selected farmers and general cotton farmers;
- To develop skill of officers/staff of CDB through tarining;
- To motivate the farmers to grow cotton and to strengthen extension activities;
- To procure and process of seed cotton of Hill cotton to produce seed and distribute to the farmers;
- To popularise IPM activities for reducing use of pesticide and cost of production;
- To conduct survey for identifying new areas of cotton cultivation;
- To encourage private sector for marketing, ginning and use of cotton By-products;
- To organize farmers for ensuring fair price of seed cotton and proper use of inputs through cotton growers association.
In order to develop the research capability of CDB a project titled “Strengthening Research Activities of Cotton Development Board” has been submitted to the Government for approval.

Overall Objective :
To increase research capacity of Cotton Development Board
Specific Objectives :
i) To conduct research for developing modern production technology of cotton;
ii) To develop open pollinated short duration & high yielding varieties;
iii) To develop hybrid and Bt. cotton varieties;
iv) To construct laboratory rooms and develop laboratory facilities in the
research farms/centers of CDB;
v) To build green houses at Sripur and Mahiganj farms for conducting research in controlled environment;
vi) To establish a gene bank at Mahiganj farm for preserving cotton
germplasms;
vii) To establish a library in each research farms/centers & Head Office at
khamarbari, Dhaka;
ix) To construct boundary wall around research farms/centers for protection;
x) To facilitate technology generation and transfer through participatory
research at farmers level; and
xi) To develop knowledge and skills of officers/staff of CDB and cotton farmers
through training, seminars, workshop, study tour, exchange visit, higher studies etc.
