Cotton Development Board (CDB) is a government organization responsible for increasing cotton production and research in Bangladesh. It is established in December, 1972 under the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to boost up cotton production in the country.
The cultivation of cotton (Gossypium Spp.) and its manufactures into textile has been practiced in the region since prehistoric time. The finest cotton fabric- Moslin once produced in medieval Bengal was famous through out the world. Since the establishment of CDB, two types of cotton- namely the American upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) and Hill cotton (Gossypium arboreum) have been growning in Bangladesh
This web site is one of the initiative to implement the Vision 2021 of the present government for digital Bangladesh and will help to disseminate the cotton production technologies and information inside and outside of the country. It will be helpful for the cotton farmers, farmer association, private ginners, Extension and Research officer/staff of CDB, Ministry of Agriculture and other concerned Ministries, policy makers, Research Organization, Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation, Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, different Universities, students, print and electronic media, International Cotton Organizations and other related groups and Organization/ Institutions etc. to acquire knowledge about cotton production technologies and it’s research. As a result cotton production will be increased in the country.
