Diversified Use of Cotton
Cotton is a diversified crop and it is counted about 400 uses in our daily life. The major end uses for cotton fibre in Bangladesh includes wearing apparel, home furnishings, and other industrial uses.
- The cotton fibre is made primarily into yearns and threads for use in the textile and apparel sector in the country.
- Medical and hygienic cotton, compress, gauze bandages, sanitary towels are made form the waste cotton after making yearns and threads.
- Cotton is also uses for making Satranchi (Mat), Blanket etc.
- Linters attached with seedcoat are uses for making Reyon, Cellulose, Pad, Kushon, Plastic, Photo film, etc.
- Cotton seed consist 12-15% oil and it is extracted mechanically and uses as vegitable oil after refine (Seperation of Gossypol).
- Cotton seed oil is also uses in the soap and cosmetics industries.
- Cotton seed hulls have also been used to provide roughage in animal feed. The remains of the seed after the oil has been extracted can also be rendered as flours for livestock feed.
- Cotton Oil cake and dry leaf is use as fertilizer to improve the soil.
- Dry cotton plant can use as fuel in rural areas of Bangladesh.
- Many research results show its another use in paper production.
